Warning: Episode 7 spoilers!

Deok-Su, our lovable Squid Game thug, is spot on. NFW should he continue guessing and take one for the “team” so that others might get across the bridge at his expense. However, as opposed to his refusal to take even one step, the group should agree on the following so that the chances of the majority are reduced to 50/50 as opposed to, say, 1/262,144 for Player 96 (#1 in the game):

#1 tries the 1st set tiles; #2 tries the 2nd set of tiles (#2 already knows what to do with the 1st set); and so on. That way, everyone has a 50/50 chance.

Now, 16 of the 18 sets will be known. The 17th and 18th sets should be tried by the 2 remaining lowest contestants since it can be argued that they had no chance in hell if they went first in the “traditional” way. Their effective odds are 1/4 as opposed to everyone else who is 1/2 at the beginning of this exercise.

Why, would, for example, #12–16 agree to this modified format since they would probably survive the traditional one? The other players shouldn’t give them the choice, a la Deok-Su…
